I had a really great experience with Ostal. The property was clean, well maintained, and the overall atmosphere was very comfortable and welcoming. The staff was helpful and cooperative, and the check-in process was smooth. The rooms were neat, beds were comfortable, and the common areas were nicely designed which made it easy to relax and meet new people. The location was also very convenient, with easy access to nearby cafes, restaurants, and transport. What I liked the most was the vibe of the place it felt safe, peaceful, and well managed. Everything was organized properly and it did not feel crowded or messy like many other hostels. Overall, I would definitely recommend Ostal to anyone looking for a clean, comfortable, and well managed place to stay. I would happily stay here again.
This is truly one of the best places to stay in Pondicherry. I absolutely loved the hospitality and warmth shown by the entire team. A special thanks to Tara, Pavithra, Rishav, Dinesh, and Astha—their kindness and attention made my stay unforgettable. The manager, cooking staff, and support team were equally wonderful. What makes this place special is that it doesn’t feel like just accommodation—it feels like home. The atmosphere is so welcoming that I genuinely felt like I was surrounded by family. I only wish I had more holidays to spend here! If you’re looking for the perfect place to relax and hang out with friends and family, Ostel is definitely one of the best choices. Highly recommended!
“More like a strict camp than a welcoming hostel.” --- Key Issues & Observations Unprofessional Reception Staff Check-in was denied as make my trip alloted 1 bed in female dorm, and no refund policy No attempt to resolve the issue professionally or courteously. Excessive & Unexpected Charges Charged extra for basic amenities such as towels and swimming pool access. Overall experience felt overly commercial and unfriendly. Food Quality Food served was very average and not worth the price. Owner’s Behavior Owner was unprofessional and directly told to connect your vendor who made the booking Poor Location Property is located just outside Auroville beach, which is dirty and filthy. A cemetery nearby gives a very unpleasant first impression. Dorm Rules & Environment Dorm rooms have very strict rules. No talking after 10 pm, lights are switched off very early in the dorm. Atmosphere feels like a camp, not a hostel. No drinking allowed inside the hostel which is a major downside for most travelers. --- Overall Verdict Not suitable for travelers looking for a relaxed, social, or hostel-style experience. Strict rules, poor service attitude, and bad location significantly impact the stay.
The room was clean, comfortable, and had all the basic amenities needed for a pleasant stay. The bed was cozy, there was enough space to keep belongings, and the overall atmosphere was calm and relaxing. The washroom was well-maintained, and everything felt hygienic. A special mention to the host, Tara, who was extremely friendly and helpful throughout the stay. She made sure everything was comfortable and was always available if needed, which really added to the positive experience. Overall, a great place to stay—especially if you're looking for something affordable yet comfortable. Would definitely recommend!
