Mitra McLeodganj is one of the most memorable stays in my Dharamshala/McLeodganj trip. The location is super convenient—walking distance from cafes, shops, Dalai Lama Temple and local attractions. The rooftop views of the mountains are unreal and perfect for chilling in the evenings. The staff consistently get praise for being warm, friendly, and genuinely helpful, making guests feel at home rather than just customers. The common areas are welcoming and great for meeting fellow travelers, and the rooms (especially dorms) are clean, comfortable and value-for-money. Many guests also mention a cute hostel cat and the overall friendly vibe as highlights. Highly recommended for solo travelers and groups alike—it gives you that classic Himalayan hostel experience with comfort and community
Had a really amazing experience staying at Mitra Hostel in McLeod Ganj. The whole vibe of the place was super fun and welcoming. The staff and the people staying there were all really friendly, which made the stay even better. The rooftop cafe has such an amazing view ,perfect place to sit, chill, and enjoy the mountains. Special mention to Himangi ma’am and sir for being such fun and warm hosts. Had a great time there and would definitely recommend this hostel to anyone visiting McLeodGanj.
Mitra is more than just a place to stay; it’s an experience that captures the true soul of McLeod Ganj. From the moment you arrive, the hospitality—led by the incredible Karni Singh—makes you feel like part of a community rather than just another guest. The property strikes the perfect balance between social energy and serene isolation. The rooftop is the undisputed highlight, offering sweeping, cinematic views of the snow-capped peaks that are perfect for morning coffee or sunset photography. Inside, the rooms are spacious, clean, and carry a minimalist aesthetic that feels both modern and cozy. Whether you're there to work remotely (the Wi-Fi is surprisingly solid), meet fellow travelers in the common areas, or just enjoy the company of the resident cat, Mitra delivers on every front. The food at the rooftop cafe is excellent, and the location is tucked away just enough to escape the noise of the main square while staying walkable to everything. If you're visiting Dharamshala, do yourself a favor and book a room with a balcony—waking up to that mountain horizon is worth every penny. Quick Highlights for your Post: Host: Karni Singh (Top-tier service) Best Feature: Rooftop views of the Dhauladhar range The Vibe: Minimalist, community-driven, and peaceful Must-Do: Sunset dining at the rooftop cafe
Everything was very perfect - The stay, food, room, vibe, people and location. Perfect for everything. Market is near. Major locations are easily reachable. Good cafes nearby and I would suggest if you are confused about cafes nearby except for the dharamkot's cafes, then better sit and eat at the Rooftop Cafe. And now they have started live music in the cafe where you can also jam, play, dance, sing and enjoy. Kudos to Mitra Hostel and their members.
I personally had a great time! The staff is very inviting and they make your stay very comfortable, Himangi didi was such breath of fresh air and was very helpfull during our stay. The rooftop cafe is remarkable aswell as it’s very peaceful to just sit and stargaze and have a nice time.
