Pappi Chulo Hostel

The hostel itself is genuinely amazing. Great vibe, crazy atmosphere, and overall a really good place to stay. But unfortunately, the host Dev completely ruins the experience. I honestly don’t understand where the attitude and ego come from. For the past few days, he has been acting as if I’m not even staying at the hostel and have somehow come from outside just to use the common area. Apparently, even sitting in the common area is a problem for him. Today is my checkout and I have a flight in a few hours, so I was simply lying down in the common area for a while before leaving. Even that seemed to bother him. On top of that, he has basically turned the area outside the girls’ hostel into his little personal office and sits there all day, while constantly behaving rudely with guests. A host is supposed to make guests feel comfortable, not make them feel like they are inconveniencing him by simply existing in the hostel. Dev seriously needs to understand what hospitality means and learn how to deal with customers properly. Papichulo is a great hostel, but the way the host behaves can seriously ruin the experience.

We booked this hostel after hearing the hype of it being a party hostel. Maybe it's the off-season, but I didn't get any such vibe here, compared to other happening hostels like Beachside, Zostel, or Hosteller. Also, the washrooms were pathetic. I've been traveling for 10 years and stayed at various hostels and remote properties too. I haven't faced any issues with washrooms until now. The property seems good; maybe maintenance is the issue. Although it's not about the housekeeping staff or any other person, it's about the basic elements one expects in a hostel. Even the RO container was not covered properly; there were insects and little flies around it. Seeing such conditions, I was not in a position to try anything from the cafe. I hope they improve such things in the future.

Don't go by the manipulated 5 star ratings. The place looks nice and cool, location is very good you can just walk few steps in night and will find yourself in the middle of multiple clubs. Beach is also within 1 km range. The negatives are : it's overhyped..there are no such activities or social gatherings being organised. There is no in-house restaurant if you want something..just maggi sort of things you can expect from them. U r in goa, you expect your drinks to be reasonable but they sell all their drinks at 3 times of the mrp. Most important, pls pls pls re-consider your decision if you are planning to stay in their private rooms, they are horrible. It's a tiny, dirty, unhygienic room without any service. Bathroom was full of bugs and cockroaches, no wifi, no telephone for any room service, no tv..nothing. Double bed is not even a queen size. You can see the pillow condition i have attached for your reference. When i told the reception to change it, she literally said that fungus is on pillow and not on cover..And i actually paid price of a decent luxury hotel room for that. Plz avoid their private rooms and you'l thank me later. I can't comment on their dom rooms as I haven't stayed there. If you want to feel the vibes, just stay somewhere else and visit for 1-2 hours for a drink. That's enough. The property is not that bad but just overhyped. 🙂

Had amazing stay at Pappi Chulo. The vibe is energetic yet thoughtfully designed, with beautiful artistic spaces that really stand out. I especially enjoyed the social atmosphere—it’s easy to connect with people while still feeling comfortable. The staff were extremely warm, attentive, and always ready to help, which truly elevated the overall experience. The food and bar were great, and the location near Vagator Beach makes it even better.
