Fantastic Stay at HostelExp, Varkala.
I had an absolutely wonderful time at HostelExp during my two-night stay in Varkala. From the moment I arrived, I could tell I’d made the right choice. The vibe here was incredibly welcoming, and the people I met really made the experience special. Whether it was the fantastic community dinner or the lively hostel party, there were so many memorable moments that made this stay stand out.
The hostel is clean, well-maintained, and the staff—especially Abhi and the owner Goodwin—go out of their way to make you feel welcome and help you make the most of your trip.
Overall, I’m so glad I picked this spot for my stay. HostelExp will definitely be one of my most memorable travel experiences.

Home away from home!
Hostel EXP was the perfect stay in Varkala! It’s in an ideal location — just a 3-minute walk to the cliff, close enough to all the action but far enough that you can actually get a good night’s sleep (no bars blasting music until 3 a.m. 🙌). There’s even a mart right across the street for snacks and drinks, which was super convenient.
What really made our stay special was the host — he’s so kind and accommodating. The smoothie bowls and pancakes he makes are not only delicious but beautifully presented too! 😄
We also fell in love with Luca, the adorable hostel kitten who’s always around playing. The hammocks scattered throughout the property and the chill music in the background made it feel so relaxing.
Truly felt like our home away from home 🤍
My god. I had an amazing experience here for 6 days. The hostel does activities pretty much every day. Abhi will help you with pretty much anything. The guys are really nice company when it’s quiet. Abhi if is the greatest manager ever. Goodwin is nice and chill and will give you advice and tips. Same with the others. So helpful. I really appreciate the time guys🫶🏼
The hostel has a very nice ambience with a warm and welcoming vibe. The interiors are decorated well, creating a cozy and comfortable atmosphere for travelers. It’s a good and budget-friendly place to stay, with common areas that encourage socializing and relaxation. Overall, I had a comfortable experience here. The only drawback was the presence of quite a few cockroaches, so better pest control would make the stay even more pleasant. With that small improvement, this place could be near perfect for backpackers and solo travelers.
I have loved my stay here in Varkala at exp. Aphi the manager is friendly and extremely helpful. The volunteer at the time Omkar organised group activities each day and was enthusiastic and organised. The location is great and the dorms are plenty comfortable. I would absolutely recommend this hostel to anyone wanting a social experience out of their time in Varkala. I will be heading to another exp location in Auroville shortly after my time here! Luca the cat also does a great job at greeting guests and making them feel welcome
